The Pre-Wash Routine Ritual We Do Before a Busy Week

How We Prep Our Hair for the Week Ahead

There’s something about starting the week with freshly washed, styled hair that makes everything feel a little more put together.

But for us, the ritual actually starts a few hours before the shower.

Our favorite pre-wash routine combines Alstelle’s Scalp + Hair Strengthening Oil with our Repair + Soften Hair Mask for a simple ritual we like to do about four hours before wash time.

No complicated ten-step routine. Just a little planning ahead.

Start With the Scalp + Hair Oil

Before washing, apply Scalp + Hair Strengthening Oil throughout the scalp and work it gently through the hair.

Take your time with this part. Massage it into the scalp, then distribute the remaining oil through your lengths and ends.

This is one of those rituals that's easy to work into whatever you're already doing. Put your hair up and make dinner. Clean the house. Answer emails. Watch a movie. Go about your Sunday.

The ritual doesn't need your attention for four hours. It just needs a few minutes to begin.

Add Your Hair Mask

Next, work Repair + Soften Hair Mask through the lengths of your hair, concentrating especially on areas that feel like they could use a little extra care.

Then twist your hair up, clip it back, and leave everything in while you continue with your day.

We like giving the ritual around four hours before washing, but the point isn't to turn hair care into another item on an already-long to-do list.

It's to make it fit into your life.

Then Wash and Style as Usual

When you're ready, wash everything out and continue with your normal shampoo, conditioner, and styling routine.

And that's it.

A few minutes of preparation earlier in the day becomes part of getting ready for the days ahead.

Make Wash Day Part of the Ritual

We tend to think of beauty routines as something that happens in front of the mirror.

But some of our favorite rituals happen in the background.

Hair oil working while you're making dinner. A mask sitting while you're cleaning your bedroom. Skincare soaking in while you're reading. Body butter after a late shower.

Little things that fit into the life you're already living.

Because getting ready for the week doesn't have to start Monday morning.

Sometimes it starts four hours before wash day.
